A Buddhist Approach to Transforming the Inner Critic

Sat 14 Feb 2026 - 10.30am - 12 noon

At Heruka Kadampa Meditation Centre, Golders Green

With Gita Gupta

Do you ever find yourself caught in a loop of self-judgment, doubt, or harsh inner commentary? The “inner critic” can sap our confidence, limit our potential, and make everyday challenges feel harder than they need to be. Buddhist teachings offer a compassionate and practical approach for recognising these unhelpful mental habits and transforming them from within.

In this uplifting talk Gita Gupta will explain how the inner critic arises from mistaken ways of seeing ourselves — not from our true nature. Through meditation and gentle wisdom, we can learn not to identify with negative thoughts or narrow self-concepts and instead develop a kinder, more spacious, and more accurate view of who we are.

You will explore:
• How the inner critic forms and why it feels so convincing
• Practical Buddhist methods to reduce self-criticism at its root
• Meditations that build confidence, inner warmth, and emotional resilience

Leave feeling empowered, clearer, and equipped with tools to shift from self-limitation to a more peaceful, balanced, and meaningful way of relating to yourself.

The teacher, Gita Gupta, is studying on the Foundation Programme. She is a very joyful and experienced teacher. Gita presents Kadampa Buddhism in a sincere and practical way that inspires us to develop inner peace and a good heart.
