Meditation Centre for Modern Buddhism

Find lasting peace and happiness through meditation

Heruka Kadampa Meditation Centre (KMC) is a well-established and popular London meditation Centre operating in the heart of city and the surrounding areas.

For the time-being the Centre is running all its meditation classes and weekend courses online. In due course, local meditation classes will resume at all our 15 London venues, and our weekend courses & retreats will continue at the main Centre in Golders Green.

Following the teachings and practices of Kadampa Buddhism, the Centre provides the ideal place for beginners to learn how to meditate.

How to start meditating

Heruka KMC runs a full programme of meditation activities for beginners and experienced meditators.

Each week, the Centre runs several online sessions including weekday meditation classes. Each session covers a specific topic which is relevant to our modern lives, helps solve our daily problems and brings lasting peace and happiness. Each session includes guided meditations from an experienced teacher.

For more in-depth study, the Centre also provides a Foundation Programme and a Teacher Training Programme. Everyone is welcome.

Happiness and suffering are states of mind, and so their main causes are not to be found outside the mind.

How to Transform Your Life by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

If we were to respond to difficult situations with a positive or peaceful mind they would not be problems for us; indeed, we may even come to regard them as challenges or opportunities for growth and development.

How to Transform Your Life by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Delusions are the enemies of sentient beings, and just as we would not blame a victim for the faults of his attacker, why should we blame sentient beings for the faults of their enemies?

How to Transform Your Life by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Once we learn to value the inner wealth of patience, giving, love and compassion above external conditions, we will come to regard each and every living being as supremely precious, no matter how they treat us.

Eventually, through continuing to improve our inner peace, we will experience supreme permanent inner peace of mind, or 'nirvana'

Learn Buddhist meditation online

We all have the two basic wishes: to be free from everyday problems and find lasting peace and happiness. With Buddhist meditation we have the actual method to realise these two goals.

By listening to the Buddha's teachings on wisdom and compassion, as taught at the London meditation Centre, we will come to develop increasingly more and more positive views and intentions. By combining this experience with training in authentic meditation techniques, these beneficial ways of thinking will become part of our daily attitudes and beliefs.

In this way, we will gradually reduce negative, unpeaceful minds - such as anxiety, anger, stress, loneliness and dissatisfaction - and replace them with more peaceful states - including patience, love, compassion and consideration for others. This process of spiritual development will make us happier, more positive and much better able to help those around us.

In addition to weekday meditation classes, Heruka KMC runs regular weekend meditation courses, pujas or chanted prayers, in-depth study programmes and, as a member of the New Kadampa Tradition, we provide access to International Kadampa Festivals.

Introducing modern Buddhism in London

All the teachings and meditations taught at Heruka KMC come under the umbrella of 'modern Buddhism', which is 'a special presentation of Buddha's teachings on compassion and wisdom that communicates their essence in a way that is easy to understand and put into practice'.

Following the teachings of Kadampa Buddhism, as taught by Venerable Atisha and Je Tsongkhapa centuries ago, the founder of modern Buddhism in this world, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, encourages everyone to use these teachings to train in both compassion and wisdom. With compassion and wisdom, 'like the two wings of a bird, we can quickly reach the enlightened world of a Buddha'.

What is Kadampa Buddhism?

Kadampa Buddhism is a special presentation of Buddha's teachings that is specially suited to the people of the modern world. The teachings and meditation techniques taught give us the inspiration we need to find the lasting inner peace and happiness we long for and the understanding we need to finally solve our daily problems. How wonderful!

An International Buddhist Tradition

The teachings and practices of modern Buddhism are provided by the New Kadampa Tradition - International Kadampa Buddhist Union, a modern Buddhist tradition, which organises National Celebrations and International Festivals every year. All the activities of the New Kadampa Tradition are for the benefit of everyone throughout the world, to help create World Peace.

Guided Meditation for Beginners

All meditation classes and weekend courses at Heruka KMC are suitable for beginners and follow the teachings of modern Buddhism. All meditations are guided by an experienced teacher who will explain the key concepts and meditation techniques needed for the session, and guide authentic meditations originating from Buddha. Everyone is welcome to attend.
