Pujas (Chanted Prayers)
Receiving Blessings
What are pujas?
The chanted prayers at Heruka KMC, known as ‘pujas’, are special methods for purifying negativity, accumulating merit and receiving blessings and help us develop and maintain a positive mind. They are also a powerful preparation for meditation. Below you will find an overview of pujas that we regularly do at Heruka KMC. Everybody is welcome to attend. There is no need to book and there is no fee. For dates and times see our calendar.
Wishfulfilling Jewel
Every day
Wishfulfilling Jewel is a special practice for developing compassion, wisdom, and spiritual strength by relying on the Wisdom Buddha Je Tsongkhapa, and for overcoming obstacles and difficulties on the spiritual path by relying on his Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden.
These practices were revealed by the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri who emanated as Je Tsongkhapa. By relying upon this Guru Yoga practice of Je Tsongkhapa, we can purify negativity, accumulate merit, and receive blessings. In this way, we shall naturally accomplish all the realizations of the stages of the path of Sutra and Tantra, and in particular we shall attain a very special Dharma wisdom.
Liberation from Sorrow - Tara puja
On the 8th day of each month
If we rely upon Mother Tara sincerely and with strong faith she will protect us from all obstacles and fulfil all our wishes. If we recite the twenty-one verses of praise (as we do in this puja) we shall receive inconceivable benefits. These praises are very powerful because they are Sutra, the actual words of Buddha. It is good to recite them as often as we can.
Offering to the Spiritual Guide
On the 10th and 25th day of each month
A special Guru Yoga of Je Tsongkhapa in conjunction with Highest Yoga Tantra. The main practice is relying upon the Spiritual Guide, but it also includes all the essential practices of the stages of the path (Lamrim) and training the mind (Lojong), as well as both the generation stage and completion stage of Highest Yoga Tantra.
Melodious Drum
On the 29th day of each month
Long Protector puja. A ceremony for fulfilling and restoring the commitments of the Dharma Protector.
Precepts
On the 15th day of each month
The practice of taking and keeping the eight Mahayana precepts is a special practice of moral discipline that is performed with the wish to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. The essence of the practice is to take eight precepts and to keep them purely for a period of twenty-four hours. By doing this practice again and again we acquaint ourself with the practice of moral discipline and thereby make our human life meaningful.
Powa Ceremony
Once a month
So many living beings die each day. If these living beings have the opportunity to take rebirth in a Buddha’s Pure Land they will attain permanent liberation from suffering and experience pure and everlasting happiness. Our of powa - or transference of consciousness - offers them this precious opportunity. By engaging in this practice we ourself will create a great collection of virtue, which will also lead us into the pathway to the Pure Land of a Buddha.
